• Property-carrying drivers can drive a maximum of 11 hours per shift. The adverse driving conditions exemption extends the 11-hour driving limit to 13 hours. This exemption does not extend the 14-hour driving period. It means that all 13 hours of driving must still be completed within the 14-hour window.
• Drivers are allowed to drive for 12 hours following 8 consecutive hours off duty. 15 Hour Rule (37 TAC 4.12(a)(2)) A motor carrier cannot permit or require a driver to drive after 15 hours are spent on duty following 8 consecutive hours off-duty. NOTE: Drivers in intrastate commerce violating the 12 or 15 hour limits shall be placed out-of.
• Hours Of Service Driving In The USA (DOT Rules) Rules related to hours of service in the USA: Drivers may drive a maximum of 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. A Driver may not drive beyond the 14th hour after coming on duty, following 10 consecutive hours off duty. A driver may not drive after 60/70 hours on duty in 7/8 consecutive days.
• The 14-Hour limit means that once a driver comes back ON-Duty after 10 consecutive drivers of OFF-Duty time, that driver cannot drive beyond 14 consecutive hours. This workday limit is the total number of hours a driver can work in a day and is designed to prevent driver fatigue.
• A driver may restart a 7/8 consecutive day period after taking 34 or more consecutive hours off duty. NOTICE: The Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015 was enacted on December 16, 2014, suspending enforcement of new requirements for use of the 34-hour restart, pending a study.

• The work week starts after the last legal reset. For example, if you begin at 1 a.m. on Monday, then your 168-hour work week continues until 1 a.m. the following Monday.
• Each duty period must begin with at least 10 hours off-duty.
• Drivers may work no more than 60 hours on-duty over seven consecutive days.
• Drivers may be on duty for up to 14 hours following 10 hours off duty, but they are limited to 11 hours of driving time.
• Drivers must take a mandatory 30-minute break by their eighth hour of coming on duty.
• The 14-hour duty period may not be extended with off-duty time for breaks, meals, fuel stops, etc.
• Drivers can restart the 7-day period once every 168-hour work week. This entails taking at least 34 consecutive hours off with two consecutive periods of 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Intrastate Hours of Service Rules. Driver may drive 12 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. Driver may not drive after 16th hour after coming on duty following 10 consecutive hours off duty. Driver may not drive after 70/80 hours on duty in 7/8 consecutive days. 34 consecutive hours off constitutes end of 7/8 day period.

1. Daily requirement*

• A driver must have 10 hours off-duty in a day.
• A driver cannot drive more than 13 hours in a day.
• A driver cannot drive after 14 hours on-duty in a day.

2. Mandatory off-duty time

• After a period of at least eight hours off-duty, a driver cannot drive more than 13 hours.
• After a period of at least eight hours off-duty, a driver cannot drive after having been on-duty for 14 hours.
• After a period of at least eight hours off-duty, a driver cannot drive after 16 hours has elapsed.

3. Cycle requirement

• An operator shall designate a cycle for the driver to follow.
• There are two cycles available, a seven-day cycle or a 14-day cycle.
• In a period of seven consecutive days, a driver cannot drive after having been on-duty for 70 hours.
• In a period of 14 consecutive days, a driver cannot drive after having been on-duty for 120 hours. Drivers following this cycle shall not drive after accumulating 70 hours on-duty without having taken 24 consecutive hours of off-duty time.
• On any day, all drivers must have a period of at least 24 consecutive hours off-duty in the preceding 14 days.

4. Cycle reset/switching

As a network card can only connect to a single network at a time, Microsoft introduced the Microsoft virtual WiFi miniport adapter to overcome that limitation.It uses virtualization to allow the network card to appear as two separate ones. • A driver may only switch the cycle they are on if they start a new cycle.
• To start a new cycle, a driver on the seven-day cycle must take 36 consecutive hours off-duty.
• To start a new cycle, a driver on the 14-day cycle must take 72 consecutive hours off-duty.

5. Daily log requirement

A daily log may be handwritten, computer generated or made by means of a recording device. The daily log must contain the following information:

• Driver’s name
• Date
• Name of the driver’s co-drivers, if any
• Start time of the day being recorded, if the day does not start at midnight
• Cycle that the driver is following
• Odometer reading, at the start of the day
• Number plate of each commercial motor vehicle to be driven and each trailer
• Name of the operator
• Address of the driver’s home terminal and of the principal place of business of the operator
• Graph grid as illustrated in Form 1 of the regulation (not required for Recording Device)
• Start and end times for each duty status during the day
• Location where the driver’s duty status changes
• Total time spent in each duty status during the day
• Odometer reading at the end of the day
• Total distance driven by the driver
• Driver’s signature
  

6. Daily log exemption:
A driver is not required to keep a daily log if the driver

• Drives the commercial motor vehicle solely within a radius of 160 kilometres of the location at which the driver starts the day
• Returns at the end of the day to the same location from which he or she started
• Only works for one operator that day

Local Driver Hours Of Service Regulations

If a driver is not required to keep a daily log, the operator shall keep a record for the day showing:

• Date, driver's name and the location where the driver starts and ends the day
• Cycle that the driver is following
• Hour at which each duty status starts and ends
• Total number of hours spent in each duty status
